Zuckerberg had long wanted to rebrand Facebook where Facebook would be known as the metaverse, not just a social platform. Facebook founder and chief executive officer (CEO) Mark Zuckerberg has said that his company will now be known under the new name 'Meta' as part of an effort to incorporate digital transformation for the future. Zuckerberg calls it the 'Metaverse'. However, critics say it may be an attempt to divert attention from the controversy over the leak of the document from Facebook Papers.

According to Zuckerberg, 'Metaverse' will be a platform on which people will be able to communicate and work to create products and content. He hopes it will be a new platform that will create 'millions' of jobs for creators. The announcement comes at a time when Facebook is facing an existential crisis. It is facing legislative and regulatory scrutiny in many parts of the world following the revelations in Facebook Papers.
