UPSC Exam Information

Union Public Service Commission of India also known as UPSC in short. The full form of UPSC is Union Public Service Commission and in Gujarati & Hindi we can also call it Sangh Lokseva Aayog. The Union Public Service Commission is a constitutional body. UPSC conducts many exams. In which we are going to get information about Civil Service Exams. UPSC Civil Services Exam is known as the biggest exam in the country.

UPSC Exam Information:

Civil services exam is conducted every year to select candidates for prestigious services like IAS, IPS, IRS, IFS, IRTS, ICLS etc. among the exams conducted by UPSC. Every year lakhs of people appear for these exams due to which very few people succeed in this exam. Civil Services Exam is conducted in three main parts. 1) Prelims Exam, 2) Mains Exam and 3) Interview Exam. A general explanation about these exams is given below.

UPSC Preliminary Exam:

The first stage of civil services examination is known as preliminary examination or prelims examination. This exam is a multiple choice exam. In which you are given four options and you have to tick one of them. This exam is of 200 marks.

There will be 2 papers in the first civil service exam. The first paper will be of General Studies and the second paper will be of Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT). The first paper will have 100 questions in General Studies and each question will be of 2 marks. Second paper i.e. CSAT will have 80 questions and that too will be of 200 marks. In which you have to get 33% marks. You will be given 2 hours time in both these papers.

In the first paper General Studies questions are asked from topics like History, Current Affairs, Economics, Geography, Constitution of India, Panchayati Raj, Indian Polity. In the second paper questions are asked from topics like General Mental Ability, Logical Reasoning.

Your second paper of prelims exam whose marks are not considered for proceeding to mains exam. Only you have to pass with 33% marks. That means you have to get 67 marks in the 200 marks paper to pass. You have to score good marks in your first paper of General Studies.

If you get 80 marks in the first paper and 150 marks in the second paper and another person gets 150 marks in the first paper and 80 marks in the second paper then the other person will be passed for mains exam. Because the second paper is only for qualifying.

UPSC Mains Exam:

If you pass the prelims exam then you are called for the mains exam. In UPSC Civil Services Exam Part 2 comes Mains Exam. Your main exam will be written. There will be 9 papers. The first two papers of the mains exam are the qualifying papers. whose marks are not considered further. In which you just have to pass.

Your first paper of the main examination will be in English and the second paper will be in any language of your choice given in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. Both these papers will be of 300-300 marks. You have to get 25% marks compulsorily in both these papers. If you cannot score 25% marks i.e. 75 marks in this exam then there is no point in giving the next 7 papers. If you do not pass the first paper in English and score good marks in all subsequent papers then that paper will not be tested. Because you failed in the first paper.

The third paper of the main examination will be essay writing. In which you will have papers based on current situation and current trends. Your fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh papers will be general studies. In which subjects like History, Geography and Culture will be covered in General Studies 1. General Studies 2 will cover topics like Constitution, Statehood and International Relations. General Studies 3 will be subject based like Economics, Science and Environment. General studies will be based on 4 moral values.

The 8th and 9th papers of the main exam are to be chosen by you. From the 26 subjects that UPSC gives you to choose, you have to choose those subjects. If you are a commerce student you can also choose subjects like history and geography. If you are an arts student you can choose medical science and other subjects as well. However, most of the students keep their college subjects. So that it will be easy for them to prepare for the exam.

It is mandatory for you to get 10% marks in essay writing, 4 papers of general studies and 2 other papers. All these papers will be of 250 marks. Total marks will be 1750. A good writing style is considered very important to succeed in the main examination.

UPSC Interview Exam:

The final stage of the Civil Services Exam is the Interview Exam. Which you have to go to Delhi and give. Generally the candidates who are successful in the main examination are called in the months of February, March and April. Interview exam is of 275 marks. 1750 marks of mains exam and 275 marks of interview exam to 2025 marks. This will be your final result out of 2025 marks.

Important Information:

Friends UPSC Prelims Exam in which your paper will be in English and Hindi. You can write answers in Gujarati language which is the main exam of UPSC. You can also give UPSC interview exam in Gujarati. The language papers in the main examination will be in the relevant language only. You can give mains and interview exam in any language as per UPSC language list notification.
