Chalapathi Rao was born in 1944 in Balliparu, Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh. He started his career in the film industry with the encouragement of Sr. NTR. Rao made his film debut in the 1966 film Gudachari 116. As a supporting actor and villain in the films of Sr. NTR, Krishna, Akkineni Nagarjuna, Chiranjeevi and Venkatesh, Rao was praised by all.
He acted in over 600 films in a career spanning over five decades. He also entered into production and produced films like 'Kaliyuga Krishnadu', 'Kadapa Reddamma', 'Jagannatakam' 'Pelante Nurella Panta', 'Presidentigari Alludu', 'Ardharatri Hatyalu' and 'Raktam Chindina Raatri'.
Chalapathi Rao had a special bond with Sr. NTR. He shared screen space with three generations of actors. He is known for films such as 'Yamgola', 'Yugpurush', 'Driver Ram', 'Akbar Salim Anarkali', 'Bhale Krishna', 'Sharda Ram', 'Justice Chowdhary', 'Bobbili Puli', 'Junk'. Fight with Law', 'Chor Ram', 'Allari Alludu', 'Allari', 'Ninne Pelladata', 'Nuvve Kaavali', 'Sinhadri', 'Bunny', 'Bommarillu', 'Arundhati', 'Sinha' and ' Dammu'. He was not seen on the silver screen after 'Bangaraju' was released last year.
